Through the Lens of a Fellow Survivor
About Shoshanna: Turning Survival into a Story of Strength
Hello, my fellow Breast Cancer Survivors. My name is Shoshanna, and like many of you, I’ve walked the long, winding path that comes with a breast cancer diagnosis. My story, like yours, is one of fear, strength, hope, and survival. It’s a journey that transformed me physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Today, I’m not just a Survivor—I am a photographer passionate about capturing the raw beauty of women who have fought this battle and emerged on the other side, forever changed but always resilient. It's a journey that turned fear into strength, and I'm here to show you that transformation is possible.
My journey began in the fall of 2012. I’ll never forget the day I was diagnosed—it was October 3rd, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The irony wasn’t lost on me. I had just celebrated my 53rd birthday a week earlier, and what was supposed to be a time of joy was quickly overshadowed by uncertainty and fear. A routine mammogram had uncovered a mass, and further tests confirmed what I dreaded: I HAVE BREAST CANCER.
In the following days, I felt like my life had turned upside down. Everything became a blur of appointments, consultations, and medical terms I barely understood. Surgery was scheduled, and the treatment plan was mapped out. I was scared—there’s no other way to put it. But even in those dark moments, I knew I wasn’t alone. My husband, Tim, stood by my side every step of the way, and my family and friends rallied around me like WARRIORS. While this journey was mine, I didn’t have to walk it alone.
I decided early on that I wanted to document my experience and write it all down on my Blog. Keeping a diary helped me process the emotions I couldn’t always express. It also saved me from explaining what I was going through to everyone who asked. But what I didn’t capture was the physical transformation that cancer and its treatments brought about. Yes, there were the scars, the hair loss, the changes to my body after surgery. But there was also something else—a deep, profound resilience that came through it all. A beauty that wasn’t about appearance but about Survival.
That’s what inspired me to become a photographer, specializing in capturing the journeys of other Breast Cancer Survivors. I wanted to allow women to tell their stories in a way that goes beyond words. Through my lens, I aim to capture the beauty in resilience, the strength in vulnerability, and the power of survival. I strive to create a space where women feel seen, celebrated, and empowered to embrace their post-cancer selves. Your resilience is a cause for celebration, and I'm here to acknowledge and appreciate it.
As a Breast Cancer Survivor myself, I understand the importance of documenting this journey—not just for ourselves but for our loved ones and for the world to see. I’ve been where you are. I’ve felt the fear of the unknown, the weight of the treatments, and the struggle to regain a sense of normalcy after the whirlwind of surgery and chemo. But I’ve also felt immense pride in Surviving, in overcoming what felt impossible at times. Our shared experience connects us, and I'm here to help you navigate this journey.
That’s why I’m so passionate about my work. I want to give back to the community of women who, like me, have faced Breast Cancer head-on. I want to capture the moments of strength you may not even realize you possess. I want to tell your story, not just as a survivor but as a woman who has thrived through one of the most brutal battles of her life.
My photography sessions are designed to make you feel comfortable, confident, and, most importantly, seen. Whether you’re undergoing treatment, in recovery, or years into remission, there’s a story to be told—a story of courage, transformation, and survival. I aim to create a personalized experience that celebrates every facet of your journey, from the tears and struggles to the victories and moments of joy.
My photography is not just about taking pictures; it’s about capturing the essence of who you are and the resilience that defines you. It’s about helping you see yourself in a new light that shines with Hope, Strength and Beauty.
So, if you’re ready to share your journey and capture your story, I’d be honored to participate in that process. Please book a session to start the journey. Together, we’ll create images that reflect your strength, honor your battle, and celebrate the incredible woman you are today.
With Love, Strength & Gratitude,
